Revisiting the 4 October race before Singapore

Max Verstappen won the Bahrain Grand Prix held in Malaysia. Kimi Antonelli finished second and Lewis Hamilton completed the podium. This article revisits the race on 4 October and is published now to connect its results with the next weekend.

Start and strategy

Rain delayed the start and the initial procedure was suspended. The choice between intermediates and slicks split the field. Ferrari lost positions on dry-weather tyres, but Hamilton and Leclerc recovered to third and fourth.

The fight for victory

Verstappen regained the lead after the start and managed the switch to slicks. Neutralisations compressed the gaps. In the closing stages, Alexander Albon’s stoppage triggered a VSC and then a Safety Car. Russell retired with a power-unit failure.

The final restart

Hamilton passed Isack Hadjar for a podium place. Verstappen kept the lead and finished 2.307 seconds ahead of Antonelli. The Italian’s championship advantage grew to 84 points. Singapore follows on 9–11 October.
